WTF, Wendy?

I'm a 30-something college student, newsgeek, aspiring fat activist, pet owner, bisexual, non monogamous, loud mouth who enjoys Roller Derby, karaoke, Air Hockey, video games and sharing my views in an unmoderated manner. Among other things.

WTF, Wendy? Ask me anything, and I'll tell you what **I** think.

    Socks and Laundrodrama

It’s financial aid check time again, and as per usual, there are a million things I want to buy.  A mixer, a vaporizer, clothes, etc…  Well, being that this will be the last financial aid check I get until at least next fall, I have come to the conclusion that I really need to make this check last me as long as possible.  So I am trying really hard to limit myself to only the things that I *really* need.  And to buy those things as frugally as possible. At least until after I get the pug to the vet.

A mixer is out of the question for me right now.  I just have to hope that the Oster can hang on for a few more months.

I spent $120 on new bras and panties yesterday.  I am down to one good bra, and Lane Bryant was having a sale, so I decided to stock up.  I actually managed to save more $ than I spent there.  Now I just have to wait for the bras to arrive via UPS.  Grrrr…

Went to the new Ross up on the South Hill today, and managed to check 2 more things off the Need List.

    1. Socks.  95% of the socks I’ve bought in the last 10 years have all been boring white socks. My ankle socks have gotten pretty worn, and I decided that I was tired of wearing boring socks every day.  I found these in 6-packs for $5.99 a pack.  Yay!  Now my feet can be just as loud and obnoxious as the rest of me!

    2. An Apron.  It’s not as fancy as some of the ones I was looking at online the other night, but it’s still cute, does the job, and only cost $8.99.  I And, as the embroidery reads, I really would cook for shoes.  Or a mixer.  Whatever.

So, here I am, making a conscious effort to save as much $$ as I can.  I’m also going to try to actually work all the shifts I get scheduled for at work.

Speaking of work  I still can’t believe some of the people that come into the laundromat.  I often get trapped into listening to crazy people while I fold sheets alone on Saturdays.  I have a really hard time telling people that I’d rather watch college football than pretend to give a shit about their stories. I spend a lot of time smiling and nodding and not really paying attention when people talk to me.  One of today’s customers took things to an entirely new, extremely creepy level.  This slimy guy told me that he had to get out of his house while his “porn star” wife was banging her boyfriend.  Her boyfriend has I giant cock.  Slimy guy even went so far as to show me a picture of her and the giant cock.  WTF?  What is wrong with this guy that he has this conversation with an attendant at the laundromat?  And worse, what is wrong with me that I couldn’t tell him that I was super uncomfortable with the conversation?  I just wanted to finish folding the damn sheets so I could leave.  I’m pretty sure at one point he offered to get me into the porn his friend is making.  I have a hard time hearing everything when I’m only half paying attention and all the machines are running.  Don’t get me wrong.  I am not judging anything that he’s into, except the part where he assumed I wanted to hear about it.  *shudders*

    Please pass the Brain Bleach.

Serious question for my kitchen-savy friends…

    Nerd Nightly News

So, I’m looking at KitchenAid stand mixers online tonight, and I’m wondering which is better, the tilt-head ones, or the bowl-lift ones?

And I found THIS tonight, and I can’t tell you how almost PERFECT this color is, but $350 is A  LOT to spend on a mixer, when I could get one for half the price (or less) on Craigslist and have custom vinyl stickers made for it.

    Decisions, decisions…

So long, 2011, and thanks for all the fish…

Well, I woke up on this last day of the year feeling like death on a stick.  How appropriate for one of the toughest years I’ve had in a long time.  Here’s hoping that I’m just getting it all out of my system to start over fresh tomorrow.

2011 has been quite the roller coaster for me.  And not the fun kind.  The kind that leave you puking and swearing you’ll never do THAT again.  There’s  been family drama and friends lost.  It wasn’t ALL bad; there were friends that signed contracts to each other and many that managed to spawn this year.  But most importantly, I was able to deepen my relationship with the love of my life: Roller Derby.  <3

I started out last season with a day-long training camp to become a Non Skating Official (NSO) and have more recently been announcing solo for the Lilac City Roller Girls and the Snake Pit Derby Dames, as well as co-announcing for the Spokannibals

Derby makes me crazy-happy!  If it weren’t for my Disk Disease, I would be out there kicking ass with some of the most amazing chicks I’ve ever met.  But the next best thing is to get to talk about it to crowds of Derby fans and Derby newbs.  My goal for 2012 is to work towards becoming a Certified Flat Track Derby Announcer.  I’m getting a lot more comfortable speaking live, and learning more specific details about the sport is only going to help me reach that goal.

I have one more quarter left at The Falls.  I’m not on staff at the paper anymore, which is both weird and AWESOME at the same time.  But now it’s time for me to move on, possibly to a new newsroom with it’s own set of soul-sucking problems.  I’m having a hard time nailing down a solid plan for the next part of my educational journey.  I will likely take spring and summer off of school to work full-time.  I will be applying to Universities soon, after I jump through the hoops to have my transcripts cleaned up.  It’s not looking like I’m going to make it to U of O, at least not in the next couple of years.  I’m still going to apply though; with all the awards I won at the communicator, maybe they’ll toss me some scholarship monies.

Maybe 2012 will be the year I figure out what I wanna be when I grow up. Please refrain from holding your breath.

I went out a lot less this last year.  I’m just not that excited about the bar scene anymore, especially since I’ve apparently lost all desire to drink anymore.  I’m hoping to figure out a way to spend time with my friends, without having to be surrounded by drunk people.

And now it’s time for me to take a nap before things get under way tonight.  Really, I promise I’m going to try to blog more next year.  Again, please don’t hold your breath.  <3

Stay outta trouble tonight, friends.  No one wants to spend tomorrow in Regret.

Stay tuned for an important message…

There will be an end-of-the-year wrap up today or tomorrow.  This is more or less a test to see how this will forward to my twitter and facebook accounts.  :)
